Emotional Freedom Technique
Emotional Freedom Technique, or Tapping as it’s often called, can be a stand-alone treatment, or can be used in conjunction with hypnotherapy. It is effective for many conditions and is based on tapping on key Meridian or energy points around the body in a sequence.
It can also be used by the client away from therapy as a management technique, which is particularly effective for those suffering from anxiety; fear (for instance a fear of flying); cravings (food and smoking); habits (nail biting), and low mood or energy.
As with hypnotherapy it can help with a number of conditions or problems:
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Fears and phobias
- Insomnia
- Stop smoking
- Stress reduction
- Weight management
- Menopause symptoms
The theory behind EFT is that disruption in the body’s energy flow, or Merdian flow, can cause negative behaviours and feelings. By tapping on the perceived issue, the client can restore the correct flow of energy around the body, reducing the feelings of fear, anxiety, or whatever the problem may be.
Tapping is often very empowering for the client or patient, as it can be carried out between therapy sessions. Once the negative emotion related to the issue or problem has been released it is unlikely to return. Most clients experience positive improvement after just one round of EFT.
The client is asked to grade the intensity of the negative feeling before the tapping begins. This is usually between 1 (I feel good), to 10 (I feel really bad/scared/anxious). The aim after each round of EFT tapping is that the number reduces because the negative emotion has reduced.
